2. Installing the DCOM Object Builder in the MTS
Install the DCOM Object Builder together with other components of the DCOM Connector in the SAP R/3 DCOM Connector Package of the Microsoft Transaction Server.
For the installation, two steps are necessary:
- Copying or installing the required files using SAPSetup. See also
Installing RFC Libraries.
Installing the DCOM Connector components in the MTS.
Installing the DCOM Connector
Prerequisites
Operating system Windows NT 4.0 (Service Pack 3) or Windows 95.
- The MTS (Microsoft Transaction Server) and Windows Scripting Host are installed on the target machine (NT Option Pack).
- Internet Explorer 4.01 (or higher) is installed on the target machine.
- RFC SDK
of R/3 4.5A is available.
- OLEDB SDK 1.5.
is installed on the target machine (using MS Setup).
The respective files have been copied to the directory OLEDBSD of the target machine.
- You have administration authorization on the target machine.
Procedure
To install the SAP R/3 DCOM Connector Package locally (on the target machine):
- Make sure that no (older) version of the DCOM Connector is installed on the target machine. If there is one, deinstall it.
- Install the RFC SDK on your target machine. Start program SAPSetup and follow the instructions given there. See also
Installing RFC SDK Libraries.
The corresponding files are copied to the directory RFCSDK of the target machine.
Select file default.htm from directory rfcsdk\ccwww\
The initial page of the R/3 DCOM Connector Wizard appears.
Choose Installation.
In the box Installation of RFC SDK, choose the link install the package.
Enter the complete path name for the files to be installed or check the preset path name, respectively.
Choose the pushbutton Install Package.
Note:
Do not forget under step 6 to enter the path name for OLEDB.h, since without this file generation of DCOM proxies is not possible.

Note:
If you must deinstall another (older) version of the DCOM Connector, proceed as follows:
- Start the Microsoft Transaction Server Explorer.
- Choose Computers ®
My Computer ®
Packages Installed or the corresponding menu path in the network.
- Select < SAP R/3 DCOM Connector Wizard >.
- Choose Delete (via icon or right mouse button).
Result
If the DCOM Connector is installed successfully, the installed components appear in the Packages Installed list in the Transaction Server Explorer.
To update the display, choose Refresh (via pushbutton or right mouse button).

Note:
During the DLL installation, the system writes the appropriate entries to the Windows Registry.
The installed components are also displayed in the R/3 DCOM Connector Wizard in the Installed Components list.
Installing RFC SDK Libraries
Procedure
To install the RFC SDK Libraries on the target machine, proceed as follows:
Start the SAPSetup program.
Confirm or modify the path for installing files.
The dialog box with SAP installation options appears.
Select Development Tools.
Choose Option change…
In the next dialog box you can select the components you want.
Select RFC SDK Libraries.
Choose OK.
Result
The system installs RFC Libraries for software development, including libraries for the DCOM Connector and the DCOM Object Builder.
